Load Duration Curve
A Load Duration Curve is a graphical representation of the cumulative distribution of a load over a specified time period, typically plotted in descending order of magnitude. Load duration curves are commonly used in the field of electrical engineering and power systems analysis, but they can also be applied in various other fields such as water resource management.
Applications of the Load Duration Curve symbol include:
System Planning: Load duration curves help in planning the capacity requirements of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. By analyzing historical load data represented by the LDC, engineers can estimate the capacity needed to meet future demand reliably.
Resource Allocation: Load duration curves aid in determining the optimal allocation of resources within a power system. They provide insights into when and how often certain load levels occur, which can inform decisions about the deployment of different types of power generation resources (e.g., baseload, peaking, or renewable sources) to efficiently meet demand.
Economic Analysis: LDCs are crucial for economic analysis, such as determining the cost-effectiveness of various generation options. They help in evaluating the economics of different generation technologies based on their ability to match the load profile represented by the curve.
Grid Operation and Control: Load duration curves assist grid operators in managing the power system efficiently. By understanding the typical load profile, operators can make informed decisions about scheduling generation, managing reserves, and maintaining grid stability.
Starting the Control
To start the control click on the “Assets” button in the upper left corner of the PI Vision display.
In the upper part select “weruLoadDurationCurve” by clicking on it.
Afterwards the desired PI Tag or attribute from the asset tree could be added to the display via drag and drop. The LDC symbol appears on the display and can be used.
Configuration
In the configuration, the time period for retrieving data can be specified. By default the duration is set to 1 year.
In addition, multiple configuration options are available to adjust the style of the symbol, including colors, titles and themes.
Change the Size of the Control
In case that the legend or some part of the control is not visible, it is necessary to adjust the size of the control. To do so, the first step is to change into edit mode (Icon in the upper right corner) and in a second step to click on the control. The eight appearing dots around the control can be used to adjust the size that everything is visible.
Removing the Control
Before removing the control it is necessary to switch into edit mode (Icon in the upper right corner). Thereafter it is possible to click on the control and press the delete key to remove the control.
